DRESSES

At Wyoming Classics and Bridge Over Time, we make so many different kinds of dresses from so many different fabrics and with such a variety of trims and buttons, that it is hard to make a fair presentation of them on our site. This group of dresses are mainly for everyday wear by everyday people. Some of them overlap in time frames as well. If you don't see exactly what you want, just get in touch. We have so many more patterns than we can represent online and will be glad to send pictures of others. We have also copied many dresses from movies and TV shows.

1880's Day Dress-View A Front

By the late 1800's ladies clothing had taken two directions: Health and Artistic (sometimes called Aesthetic) The influence of the popularized Artistic movement is apparent in the sleeves of this simple 1880's day dress.  The Artistic lady dressed to capture a bygone classic era. While she wore her sleeves long and her bodice snug, she strove for freedom of movement and comfort. She cut her garments fuller and avoided using stays (boning). In contrast, the fashionable lady adjusted to bodice darts, and the side and back seams to achieve a tight fit. The sleeve would have been tight and 1" above the wrist. This pattern is copied from a dress in the extensive collection of Mrs. Virginia Kimble of Wilmington, Illinois.
